We are frequently asked for advice on how to best clean a bathroom. The questions we hear most revolve around removing hard water stains from toilet bowls, and removing soap scum and water stains from glass and plastic shower doors. Our customers are also concerned with germs, and making sure their bathroom is disinfected properly.
Cleaning a bathroom isn't a chore anyone looks forward to, but we hope these tips will make the job easier and faster.
Hard Water Stains in Toilet Bowls:
First, remove the hard water stains from your toilet bowl using Kaboom!® Bowl Blaster foaming toilet cleaner. Kaboom!® Bowl Blaster is an entirely new way to clean the toilet that is fast, easier and more convenient then other toilet bowl cleaners. By simply pouring a capful of powder in the toilet bowl, the water-activated scouring foam rises to the rim and loosens the most resilient stains for you.
Once the hard water stains are gone, you want to make sure they never show up again. Kaboom!® NeverScrub Self Cleaning Toilet Kit will work wonders. You'll never have to scrub your toilet bowl again. And NeverScrub won't harm your tank parts.
For extra protection, when you leave on vacation, pour one cup of distilled white vinegar into your toilets. Then place a piece of saran wrap over the bowl. This will prevent any hard water rings from forming while you're away from home.
Cleaning Shower Doors and Walls:
Alkaline deposits in water cause those spots on your glass doors and shower walls. As a preventative measure, we recommend cleaning fiberglass walls and glass shower doors with a car wax. It will seal the pores in the fiberglass or glass, keeping water spots away, and making cleaning a cinch.
Buy a squeegee to use after each shower. This will prevent excess buildup. Some spots will still, eventually, form. For an easy cleanup, try a quick spray of Kaboom!® Shower, Tub & Tile Cleaner and a cleaning pad. The hard water buildup will wipe away and the shower doors and fiberglass shower walls will sparkle. This Shower, Tub & Tile Cleaner also works great on the floor of the shower or tub.
What about the soap scum? To reduce it greatly, consider switching to liquid soap, natural soap, or Dove®. The talc in most soap is what causes the "scum". With these new soaps, you'll still have to clean the shower, but your job will be considerably easier.
If you don't want to switch soaps, Kaboom!® Ultra Scrub is the ideal product for cleaning soap scum from showers. It also works great on bathroom sinks and countertops.
Sinks
To properly care for your bathroom sink, pour one cup of ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda followed by one cup of whie vinegar down the drain once each month. Wait for about an hour, then flush with warm water. This will remove the buildup in your pipes - such as hair, soap scum, and miscellaneous dirt.
Disinfecting
To save time, we recommend using OxiClean® Bathroom - a one step cleaner and disinfectant. Clean and disinfect surfaces all over your bathroom - you won't have to use multiple products or harsh chemicals. Use this bathroom cleaning product to disinfect your vanity, your toilet, your light switch, even your toothbrush holder and soap dish! Household germs are no match for OxiClean® Bathroom Disinfecting Cleaner. And because there are no harsh chemicals, it's safe for you and your family.
Our cleaning experts recommend having a game plan when cleaning the bathroom. Some like to clean in a circle - starting at the toilet, and circling around to the shower, the sink, the countertops, and finishing back at the toilet where they started. Often, people cleaning a bathroom will lose focus while trying to decide what to clean next, and they end up "forgetting" to clean the shower, for instance. By "attacking" the bathroom with a game plan, you'll be able to clean everything faster and more efficiently.
The bathroom should be cleaned once a week, or more frequently with heavy use. Luckily, most bathrooms are made of materials, like tile and porcelain, that are easy to keep clean. Using some of these tips should help make your bathroom sparkle and shine.
